What is an SGL file?
An SGL file is a 3D model file used by SculptGL, a browser-based digital sculpting application developed by Stéphane Ginier. It stores the geometry and sculpting data of a 3D model in the SculptGL (SGL) format, including the model's shape, vertex information, and other data needed to preserve the sculpted object. SGL files let users save models created with SculptGL and reopen them to continue editing.
More Information
Digital artists, hobbyists, and students who create 3D models directly in a web browser with SculptGL are most likely to encounter SGL files. They may use it for learning, prototyping, and quick sculpting tasks, and then save their work in the SGL format while actively sculpting. Finally, they often export the model to more widely supported formats, such as .OBJ, when needed.
NOTE: To save a 3D model in the SculptGL format, creating an SGL file, select Files (import/export) → Save .sgl (SculptGL).
How to open an SGL file
You can open SGL files with SculptGL in a web browser. To open an SGL file, select Files (import/export) → Add (obj, sgl, ply, stl).
