What is a SAB file?

A SAB file is a 3D model created in the Standard ACIS Binary (SAB) format. It contains 3D geometry and structure information for a manufactured component. SAB files are used for exchanging model information between various CAD programs.

More Information

The SAB extension stands for Standard ACIS Binary. The model a SAB file contains can also be saved in the .SAT format, which is a plain text format. (SAT stands for Standard ACIS Text.)

Each SAB file contains a three-line header, followed by model data and an end marker. It may also include history data that can be used to undo changes.

How to open a SAB file

You can open a SAB file in many different CAD programs, including Spatial 3D ACIS Modeler (multiplatform), Autodesk AutoCAD (Windows, Mac), IMSI TurboCAD (Windows, Mac), and Autodesk Fusion 360 (multiplatform).
