What is an RFQ file?

An RFQ file is a quote request created by FastCAM RFQ, a program that steel buyers use to create detailed quote requests. It contains a list of items a steel buyer would like to purchase, as well as additional information about each item. RFQ files can also be opened in FastCAM QE, by steel vendors who are responding to a quote request.

More Information

FastCAM RFQ allows steel buyers to create and export detailed quote requests for stock and processed parts, including plate and structural sections. Requests created in FastCAM RFQ are saved as RFQ files.

RFQ files are plain text files. In addition to listing the items a steel buyer would like to purchase, an RFQ file lists the following accompanying information for each item:

  • The item's material
  • The item's geometry
  • The quantity the buyer would like to purchase

How do I open an RFQ file?

You can open an RFQ file in FastCAM RFQ (Windows) or FastCAM QE (Windows). These programs format the information that RFQ files contain correctly, so they are the best option for opening RFQ files.

If you do not have access to FastCAM RFQ or FastCAM QE, you can open your RFQ file in any text editor, such as Microsoft Notepad (Windows) or Apple TextEdit (Mac). These programs will allow you to view the information your RFQ file contains as plain text.
