What is a PMR file?
A PMR file is an index file used by Avid video editing and finishing applications, such as Media Composer or NewsCutter. It stores information about the media files available in an Avid media folder, allowing the software to locate and organize audio and video assets quickly. PMR files work together with companion .MDB files to maintain an up-to-date index of media used during editing.

Avid applications automatically create and update PMR files within media storage folders as media is added, removed, or modified. Since they are generated automatically, users rarely interact with them directly. If a PMR file is deleted or becomes corrupted, Avid can rebuild it by rescanning the media folder, restoring the media index without affecting the underlying audio or video files.
How to open a PMR file
PMR files are not intended to be opened directly. Instead, Avid applications, such as Media Composer or Xpress (discontinued), create and reference them automatically to index media files. If a PMR file is missing or damaged, Avid can regenerate it by rescanning the associated media folder.
