What is an MPV file?

Unlike .MPEG, .AVI, and .MP4 files, MPV files do not use a container format. However, you can still play them in video players that include the MPEG-2 codec. In this way, MPV files are similar to .M2V and .MPV2 files.
NOTE: MPV files are often paired with associated .MPA files, which contain corresponding audio.
