What is a KLG file?
A KLG file is a text-based log file created by various Sophos applications, most notably Anti-Virus, that contains records of events related to the kernel of an operating system. The Sophos application captures the activity and stores it in the KLG file to document system scans or detected threats, which allows users to troubleshoot issues or monitor activity.
More Information
Sophos is a British company specializing in software and hardware security. It developed Anti-Virus (later rebranding it as "Antivirus) to be a cybersecurity solution for home and business use that could protect individual devices and enterprise networks from malware, ransomware, viruses, and other security threats.
NOTE: Antivirus and other Sophos applications no longer store logs as KLG files and have transitioned to .LOG files.
How to open a KLG file
You can open KLG files with any text editor to view log data. For example, Microsoft Notepad (Windows), Apple TextEdit (macOS), and gedit (Linux) can open KLG files.

A KLG file may also be a log file generated by KOFIA, a now-discontinued program primarily used to analyze simulations in scientific and research fields on Unix-based systems. It stores textual records of events, errors, or data points that occur during the simulation process, which helps users monitor the performance of their simulations, troubleshoot issues, and review specific outcomes.
More Information
While it is no longer developed, KOFIA assisted researchers in managing, monitoring, and interpreting data generated during the simulation process. The application stores data recorded from the simulations as KLG files, which researchers analyze and archive.
NOTE: KOFIA stands for "Kernel of the Finite Element Analysis."
How to open a KLG file
You can open KLG files with KOFIA but the application is no longer developed. Since the files store plain text, you can also open them with a text editor, such as Microsoft Notepad (Windows), Apple TextEdit (macOS), or gedit (Linux).
