What is an HTA file?
Program that can be run from an HTML document; an executable file that contains hypertext code and may also contain VBScript or JScript code; can be created by simply changing the file extension of an .HTM file to an ".HTA" extension; run by the Microsoft HTML Application Host (Mshta.exe).

You can run HTML applications in Windows by double-clicking HTA files. After you double-click an HTA file, Windows opens the application in Internet Explorer and runs the embedded code. When an HTA file is accessed on the Web, it typically produces a dialog box that says:
"What would you like to do with this file?"
