What is an HSH file?

System file created by Indexing Service, a component of the Windows operating system used for creating a searchable file system index; commonly created in the C:\System Volume Information\catalog.wci\ directory.

HSH files are saved alongside several other index files that together comprise the search index. Other file types include .000, .BK1, .BK2, .PS1, .PS2, and .FID files.
