What is a GLINK file?

A GLINK file is an external shortcut file created by Google Drive. It contains a link to a webpage or file that is stored outside Google Drive. GLINK files are created using third-party Google Drive apps or Google Chrome extensions.

More Information

Some Google Drive apps and Google Chrome extensions, such as the gLinks and Save 2 Drive Chrome extensions, allow users to save shortcuts to external webpages and online files in Google Drive. These shortcuts appear in Drive as GLINK files.

GLINK files may also appear on PCs that have Backup and Sync from Google or ChromeOS installed, because those apps synchronize with a user's Google Drive account. On these devices, GLINK files typically appear in the Google Drive folder.

How do I open a GLINK file?

Google Drive, Backup and Sync from Google, and ChromeOS users can double-click a GLINK file to open the webpage or file the GLINK file points to.

If necessary, you can also open a GLINK file in any text editor, to view the URL of the webpage or file your GLINK file links to.

Open over 400 file formats with File Viewer Plus.
