What is a DOCXML file?

A DOCXML file is a document created by Microsoft Word, a common word processing application. It stores the document in a raw XML format, but differs from the .DOCX format, which stores Open XML Word documents as Zip archives.

More Information

Microsoft Word no longer supports the DOCXML format. Instead, Word allows you to save documents as .XML files, which are more widely supported.

To save a document as an XML file with Word 365, select File → Save As, then choose the "Word XML Document (*.xml)" or "Word 2003 XML Document (*.xml)" option from the dropdown menu.

How to open a DOCXML file

Unfortunately, there are no known applications that fully support the DOCXML format since Microsoft Word dropped support for it.
