What is a BOOKTEMPLATE file?

Book design template created by iBooks Author, a digital book authoring application; includes design presets for the page layout, text settings, and other book properties; used as the starting point for a book project (.BOOK file).

Document templates more often use the .IBATEMPLATE extension. The iBooks Author installation includes several templates that use the ".ibatemplate" extension, not the ".booktemplate" extension.

The BOOKTEMPLATE file is similar to the .BOOK file since it is created to store the contents of a project. The file can be created from a variety of page layouts, such as wedding album, cookbook, guestbook, notebook, and yearbook. You can also choose from several themes that include photo borders and page backgrounds with coordinating colors.

The difference between the BOOKTEMPLATE and BOOK files is that templates are specifically designed for projects that you want to use multiple times. BookSmart can be used to create and open BOOKTEMPLATE files:

To create a BOOKTEMPLATE file, select File → Export → Export Template....

To open a BOOKTEMPLATE file, select File → New → Project from Template....
