Software Overview
Snes9x is a free Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) emulator. It was created in 1997 when Gary Henderson and Jerremy Koot combined their emulators and began development on a single, more powerful emulator. Eventually, the founders departed the project, but Snes9x is still actively developed.
The emulator allows you to play the majority of SNES games, such as Super Metroid, Super Mario Kart, and NBA Jam, on your computer. It also supports Super Famicom (SFC), which was the Japanese version of Nintendo, games that were only available in Japan. It is coded in C++ and has official ports to a variety of platforms, including Windows, OS X, Linux, Android and iOS.
Along with its support for a multitude of games, Snes9x provides some neat features that enhance gameplay. One of the best features is the ability to fast forward through slow moving games. Other useful features include video filters, cheats, online multiplayer, and image upscaling.
Snes9x is the most popular SNES emulator available. It allows you to play the majority of SNES and SFC titles, offers cool features, and is available for a variety of platforms. If you are looking to relive your SNES childhood memories, or just play new games, start with Snes9x.
