SMRD files are actually folders containing a collection of files. To browse the files, remove the ".smrd" extension and open the folder. The InDesign installation includes several SMRD files, which are located in the /Plug-ins/Filters/sangam readers/ directory.
NOTA: SMRD files are similar to .SMWT files, which are used for exporting text and graphics. The "RD" in SMRD stands for "reader," while the "WT" in SMWT stands for "writer."
