An IMG2 file is an encrypted iPhone OS 1.1.x system firmware image for an Apple iPhone device. It stores core system software and data that Apple packages in iPhone software update (.IPSW) files users install on their devices when applying an update. Apple replaced IMG2 files with .IMG3 files to store iPhone 2.0 system firmware.
