Wat is een SFC-bestand?
An SFC file is a Super Famicom video game ROM used by SNES emulators, such as Snes9x, RetroArch, and ZSNES. It contains a game saved in the file format used by the Super Famicom, which is the Japanese and South Korean version of the Super Nintendo system. Using SFC files and a Super Nintendo emulator, gamers can play old Super Famicom games on their PCs.

Originally, SFC files were created by Super Famicom game backup devices that gamers used to store backups of Super Famicom games. These days, though, most SFC files are stored on and downloaded from emulator-related websites, which provide retro gamers with the ability to play Super Famicom games on their PCs.
Because they were created from Japanese or South Korean game cartridges, SFC files typically contain the Japanese or Korean version of a game. However, the SFC file format is virtually identical to the .SMC file format, which was used for English language Super Nintendo games. Thus, most SNES emulators that can open SMC files can also open SFC files.

You can open an SFC file and play the Super Famicom game it contains in a variety of Super Nintendo emulators, including:
- Snes9x (cross-platform)
- BizHawk (Windows, Linux)
- RetroArch (cross-platform)
- Snes9x EX+ (Android)
If you are having trouble opening an SFC file in an SNES emulator, you can try renaming the file to use the .smc extension. This may allow your emulator to recognize the file as an SNES ROM.
