Wat is een MEDUSA-bestand?
A file with the .medusa extension has been maliciously encrypted and renamed by Medusa ransomware. It contains a document, database, video, image, or other type of file that the ransomware is holding hostage. At the time of this writing, there is no program that can decrypt MEDUSA files.

Medusa ransomware is a form of malware that encrypts a user's files, deletes any file backups it can find on the user's computer, and produces a plain text ransom note named !!!READ_ME_MEDUSA!!!.txt. The ransom note contains:
- An explanation of what has happened to the user's files
- Instructions the user can supposedly follow to pay a ransom and decrypt their files
After encrypting a user's files, Medusa adds the .medusa extension to those files' names, to denote that they are encrypted. For example, Medusa renames encrypted .docx files' extensions to .docx.medusa.

Because MEDUSA files are encrypted, you cannot open them. At this time, there is no program that can restore MEDUSA files to their original state. The best way to restore files encrypted by Medusa ransomware is to retrieve them from a recent backup or perform a System Restore.
