An SF3 file is a record of a mass spectrometry analysis recorded using Scaffold, a program used to identify proteins and peptides. It contains a variety of data retrieved while conducting a protein and peptide identification experiment using mass spectrometry. You can open SF3 files in the paid version of Scaffold or in the free Scaffold Viewer.

Scientists use Proteome Software Scaffold to record results of protein and peptide identification experiments conducted using mass spectrometry. These results, which contain information about identified proteins and peptides' names, the spectra used to identify the proteins and peptides, and the probability that the identifications are correct, are saved as SF3 files.
Scaffold users can view SF3 files in many different views, including the Load Data View, Samples View, Proteins View, Similarity View, Quantify View, Publish View, and Statistics View. Each view allows scientists to view and analyze the results an SF3 file contains in a different way. For example, the Samples View is a protein-centric view that gives information about proteins identified, GO terms, and quantitative values.
After they've finished their analysis, scientists may share their SF3 file with others. Users who do not have access to a paid copy of Scaffold can still use Scaffold to open and view SF3 files, by installing and activating Scaffold in Viewer Mode.

An SF3 file is an audio resource file saved in the SoundFont 3 (SF3) format. It stores a collection of sampled instrument sounds, such as pianos, drums, guitars, and synthesizers, along with instrument definitions, presets, and playback settings that music software can use for MIDI playback and virtual instrument performance. The SF3 format is based on the older SoundFont formats, including .SF2, but uses Ogg Vorbis audio compression to reduce file size while preserving sound quality.

SoundFont technology allows music software to play MIDI data using recorded instrument samples instead of simple synthesized tones. Musicians, composers, game music enthusiasts, and audio hobbyists commonly use SF3 files with digital audio workstations, MIDI editors, software synthesizers, and music playback applications to improve MIDI sound quality or recreate the sound of specific hardware instruments and sound libraries. Since SF3 files are compressed, they often require less storage space than equivalent SF2 files, which reduces required storage and makes downloading files quicker.
