XLTX files come packaged with Excel enabling you to create documents such as inventories, budget planners, calendars, and invoices from templates with pre-defined formatting. You may also create your own custom templates for reproducing workbooks or worksheets specific to your needs.

XLTX files are stored based on the Open XML file format that was introduced with Microsoft Office 2007. They replaced .XLT files, which were stored in a binary format. XLTX files can be opened by Excel 2007 or later, or by previous versions of Excel with Open XML component support.

Excel is the most widely used spreadsheet application in the world. It comes with every edition of the Microsoft Office suite and is used in home, academic, and business environments.
