What is a VSJ file?
A VSJ file is a view settings file created by Tinkercad, an online application for 3D modeling, electronics design, and circuit simulation. It contains information in the JSON standard about a user's preferred camera angles, zoom levels, perspective settings, and workspace layout for a specific Tinkercad project. VSJ files do not contain a 3D model, but rather the configuration that controls how a model is displayed on the screen.
More Information
Designers, students, hobbyists, and educators use these files to ensure that complex 3D designs can be examined from consistent angles or layouts when revisiting a project. By preserving view settings, VSJ files make it easier to continue work, review designs, or present models without manually adjusting the camera each time.
When exporting a project from Tinkercad, the software often packages VSJ files together with project files into a VSB archive. The archive acts as a container for all files related to a Tinkercad project, including the 3D model data, circuit schematics (if applicable), and auxiliary files like VSJ view settings, ensuring that when a user reopens the project, either locally or after sharing, the software can restore both the model and the saved workspace view.
How to open a VSJ file
VSJ files are not meant to be opened. Instead, Tinkercad loads automatically when you open a project saved with a corresponding view settings file. You will generally not manipulate VSJ files directly. Instead, you can manage them through Tinkercad's interface.
Since VSJ files store plain text, you can open them with a text editor, such as Microsoft Notepad or Apple TextEdit. However, the files will not appear the same when opened in Tinkercad, and incorrectly editing them may cause them to break.
