What is a VPT file?
A VPT file is a virtual pinball table created by older versions of Visual Pinball (9.x and earlier), an open-source pinball simulator and table editor. It stores the layout and behavior of a playable pinball table, including elements, such as flippers, bumpers, ramps, lights, images, sounds, and scripts that control scoring and other game logic. VPT files were replaced by .VPX files with the release of Visual Pinball 10.
More Information
Pinball hobbyists, table designers, cabinet builders, and preservation communities used the format to create, customize, and share virtual pinball tables. Depending on the table, a VPT file may also reference companion resources, such as ROMs, external scripts, backglass files, music, or other media that Visual Pinball loads alongside the table.
How to open a VPT file
You can open VPT files with Visual Pinball (must be a compatible legacy version, such as Visual Pinball 9). Some newer Visual Pinball X builds may also load certain older tables for compatibility, but support can vary depending on the table and the features it uses.
