What is a TYP file?
A TYP file is a source document created for use with the Typst typesetting system. It contains document text and Typst markup language elements. Using a TYP file's markup elements, Typst can transform the file into a publishable document (such as a .PDF file).
More Information
Typst is a document typesetting system that is an alternative to LaTeX. According to Typst's developers, Typst is "designed to be as powerful as LaTeX while being much easier to learn and use."
Just as those using LaTeX create and save source documents as .LTX or .TEX files, those using Typst create and save source documents as TYP files. These plain text files contain document text and accompanying Typst markup elements. The markup elements tell Typst how to format the document text, when it converts the TYP file to a more-common, publishable format.
NOTE: To learn more about TYP files and Typst syntax, refer to Typst's official documentation.
How to open a TYP file
While you can open and edit TYP files with any text editor, it's best to edit TYP files with Typst's official online editor. This app highlights TYP syntax and shows a preview of how Typst will format your TYP file.
If you want to publish the document a TYP file describes, you can do so using Typst's online editor or its command-line compiler. For more information about the command-line version of Typst, click here.
