What is a TEXTCLIPPING file?
Text file created in Mac OS X by dragging highlighted text to the desktop; stores the selected text as well as the formatting information, including font styles, tables, and bullets and numbering; often used for saving text fragments from Web pages and other documents.
More Information
Text clippings can be copied into other documents by dragging the files into any text editor or word processor. In this manner, TEXTCLIPPING files can be used as an alternative to the Mac OS X copy and paste operation.
Mac OS X creates TEXTCLIPPING filenames using the first several characters from the highlighted text.
NOTE: TEXTCLIPPING files can be viewed by double clicking them in Mac OS X. When opened, their text can be manually selected, copied, and then pasted into another document.
