A TAX21 file is a tax return created by the desktop version of Intuit TurboTax 2021. It contains a 2021 federal IRS tax form and one or more 2021 state tax forms. TAX21 files also store the user's personal information, such as their name, address, and occupation.

TurboTax is a U.S. tax preparation and filing application. It is available as a downloadable desktop version for Windows and macOS or as a web version called TurboTax Online.
The desktop version creates TAX2021 files when you save your tax return with TurboTax 2021 by selecting . Because TurboTax 2021 does not save TAX21 files by default, they are uncommon.
How to open a TAX21 file
You can open a TAX21 file with the desktop version of Intuit TurboTax (2021 or later) in Windows and macOS. To open a TAX21 file with TurboTax, select .
You can also upload a TAX21 file to Intuit TurboTax Online to open its contents. However, you can only upload your tax data from the previous year. For example, you can upload a TAX21 file to TurboTax Online when filing your taxes for the 2022 calendar year, not the 2021 year.
