.PROCREATE File Extension

Procreate is a digital painting and illustration app for compatible iPad models. Artists use it to draw, paint, and create detailed illustrations, often with an Apple Pencil. Procreate Pocket offers many similar features on the iPhone, allowing users to create and edit artwork on a smaller device.

Both apps use the PROCREATE format to preserve artwork in an editable form. In addition to the image and its layers, a file can include canvas information and an embedded time-lapse recording of the artist's work, if available. Artists can share PROCREATE files with other Procreate users to continue editing the artwork, and they can also export their work to more common formats, such as .PSD, .JPEG, .PNG, and .TIFF for use in other applications.

You can open PROCREATE files with Savage Procreate and Procreate Pocket (iOS). Procreate is available for iPad, while Procreate Pocket is available for iPhone.

PROCREATE files exported from Procreate 5.3 and later cannot be opened in earlier versions of Procreate or Procreate Pocket. Files exported from Procreate Pocket 4.0.8 and later also have compatibility restrictions with older versions. To open these files, update the app to a compatible version.

You can also open a PROCREATE file with Prospect, a Procreate viewer app for Mac. Prospect allows you to view and convert the image a PROCREATE file contains.

Savage Procreate can convert PROCREATE files to the following formats:

• .PSD - Photoshop Document
• .PDF - Portable Document Format
• .JPEG - JPEG Image
• .PNG - Portable Network Graphic
• .TIFF - Tagged Image File Format

You can use Prospect (macOS) to convert PROCREATE files to the .PNG, .JPEG, .BMP, and .TIFF formats.
