What is a PDY file?

A PDY file is a document encrypted by the Windows version of Star Finanz StarMoney, an online banking application. It contains a financial document, such as an invoice or account statement that has been scanned and saved as .PDF file, then encrypted by StarMoney.

Star Money is a German-based application that allows you to manage your banking information. The software utilizes the proprietary PDY format to protect sensitive information, whether it be personal or financial in your scanned documents.

After you scan a document with the Windows desktop version of StarMoney, the application saves it as a PDY file in the following location (beginning with StarMoney 7.0):

C:\ProgramData\StarMoney [version]\Profile\Document

The "ProgramData" folder is hidden by default. You can set hidden files and folders to be shown in the Windows File Explorer utility by following our Windows 8 and Windows 10 video tutorials.

How do I open a PDY file?

You can only open PDY files with the Windows version of Star Finanz StarMoney, and you must provide the proper credentials to open the file to decrypt it.
