What is an LXV file?
An LXV file is a file vault created by a Lexar JumpDrive Secure II. It contains one or more files that a user has stored in the vault. LXV files are password-protected to prevent unauthorized users from retrieving the files they contain.
More Information
The Lexar JumpDrive Secure II is a USB flash drive that allows users to encrypt and password-protect files stored on it. Users can encrypt files individually or store multiple files in a single password-protected vault. JumpDrive Secure II vaults are saved as LXV files, in the flash drive's Vaults directory.
When a user connects the JumpDrive Secure II to their computer, their LXV file appears as a separate drive on their computer (e.g., the F: drive). To access the files stored in an LXV file, or add files to the vault, a user must:
- Connect their JumpDrive Secure II to their computer.
- Use the device's Dashboard to mount their LXV file as a drive.
- Enter the password associated with the LXV file.
Then, the LXV file will appear as a drive in Windows File Explorer or Apple Finder.
How to open an LXV file
To open an LXV file:
- Ensure the file is stored on a Lexar JumpDrive Secure II. If it is not, you will not be able to open the file.
- Connect your JumpDrive Secure II to your computer.
- When the JumpDrive Secure II Dashboard appears, mount the drive that corresponds to your LXV file.
- Enter your LXV file's password.
Then, you'll be able to access the files your LXV file contains, from the newly-mounted drive that appears in Windows File Explorer or Apple Finder.
