What is a KCF file?
A KCF file is a keypad configuration file used by a Bluetooth-enabled Sony Ericsson cell phone. It maps phone buttons to computer commands. KCF files are XML files that are stored in .HID archives.
More Information
You can pair a Bluetooth-enabled Sony Ericsson cell phone with your computer to use the phone as a computer remote control. Each phone includes a default remote configuration, which maps the phone's buttons to computer functions. However, you can customize this configuration using Sony Ericsson Bluetooth Remote Control software.
After creating a custom configuration in Sony Ericsson Bluetooth Remote Control Software, you can save the configuration as an HID file and send it to your phone. Each HID file is a .TAR archive that includes a KCF file and a .JPG file. The KCF file contains XML data that specifies your custom button mapping.
How to open a KCF file
Because KCF files are XML files, you can open and edit them in any text or source code editor, such as Microsoft Visual Studio Code or GitHub Atom.
To send a KCF file to your Sony Ericsson phone, you must package the file in an HID file. Then, after pairing your phone with your computer, you can send the HID file to your phone using the Bluetooth File Exchange utility in macOS or the Bluetooth Devices Control Panel in Windows.
