What is a GMD2 file?
A GMD2 file is a custom level for Geometry Dash, created with the GDShare mod. It stores the data for a user-created level, including objects, triggers, timing information, and other elements, so players can export it from one installation of the game and import it into another. The GMD2 binary format replaced the older .GMD text-based format, and allows players to share or back up levels locally outside of Geometry Dash's built-in online sharing system.
More Information
Geometry Dash is a music-based platforming game available for iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS, in which players must tap or click in time with music to avoid obstacles. The game includes a custom level editor that lets players create levels, share them online, and play levels designed by other users.
Since the game does not provide an official method to export levels as local files, community developer HJfod created the GDShare mod to allow players to save and load levels directly in-game. The GDShare mod integrates with Geometry Dash via the Geode, adding import and export buttons to the game's level editor so GMD2 files can be opened, imported, or exported directly.
How to open a GMD2 file
You can open GMD2 files with Geometry Dash by importing them via the GDShare mod, which adds import and export options to the Geometry Dash level editor. GDShare is available on Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS through the Geode modloader.
