What is an ESF file?
Encrypted container file that stores passwords created by Privacy Suite or Password Manager, security programs developed by Steganos; allows users to access all of their online accounts with one password.
More Information
Steganos password software generates complex passwords for all of your online accounts and encrypts them in a ESF file. When you log into an online account the software automatically enters the stored password for you. This process allows you to have different very strong passwords across online accounts without requiring you to remember the passwords.
NOTE: Versions 2008 and older of Steganos Privacy Suite and Password Manager use the .SEF extension for this file.

An ESF file may also be a lighting control file used by Electronic Theater Control's (ETC) Eos software. It contains instructions that Eos uses to control theater lighting during a performance. Lighting designers can create, load, and edit ESF files with the PC or console versions of Eos software.
More Information
ETC Eos is a family of theater lighting control hardware that comes with accompanying software, also named Eos. Using the Eos software, lighting designers can design, save, and run theater lighting sequences, referred to as shows.
Versions 1 through 2.8.3 of Eos software saves designers' shows as ESF files. Subsequent versions of Eos software can also save and load ESF format shows. However, these versions do not save shows as ESF files by default. (Version 2.9 saves shows as .ESF2 files by default, and version 3 saves shows as .ESF3D files by default.)
How to open an ESF file
You can open an ESF file with any version of ETC's Eos software, via the software's file browser. While Eos software is available primarily on Eos family lighting control consoles, you can download Windows and Mac versions of the software from ETC's website (linked below).
