What is a CSMP file?
A CSMP file is an audio file included in a video game developed by Retro Studios, such as Metroid Prime 3: Corruption or Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. It typically contains a sound effect played in the game. Some CSMP files instead contain in-game music.
More Information
Retro Studios is an American subsidiary of Nintendo. The developer is best known for creating and publishing games in the Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong Country series.
Many of Retro Studios' games use audio files saved in the CSMP format. However, different games use differently-formatted CSMP files. For example, the CSMP files included in Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze contain extra data that is not present in Metroid Prime 3 or Donkey Kong Country Returns's CSMP files.
How to open a CSMP file
The following programs can open CSMP files and play the audio they contain:
- jackoalan Audacity (a custom, Nintendo gaming-oriented version of Audacity)
- vgmstream
- Foobar2000, with the vgmstream plug-in installed
- Nullsoft Winamp, with the vgmstream plug-in installed
How to convert a CSMP file
You can use jakoalan Audacity to convert CSMP files to the .MP3, .WAV, and .OGG audio formats. You can also use Foobar2000 to convert CSMP files to several common audio formats, provided you have the vgmstream plug-in installed.
