What is an ANX file?

Data file created by HotDocs, a document preparation application; saves "answers," which are used to fill the fields in a HotDocs form document (.HFD or .HPD file); saved using XML formatting and enables reuse of answers for multiple documents.

More Information

ANX files are created using the HotDocs interview mode, which guides users through a series of digital forms in order to gather the information for the HotDocs form. The files are saved to the following directory by default:
\My Documents\HotDocs\Answers\.

NOTE: "Answers" are any responses required to fill a blank field in a HotDocs form. For example, an insurance form may require a person's name, address, and other personal information.

Annodex Exchange Format File

Multimedia file stored in the Annodex exchange format, which enables indexing and annotation of contained video and audio; intended to be widely used on the web to make searching for video and audio content easier.

More Information

The Annodex format is built on the Ogg container format. It includes a skeleton track, which provides codec information that helps in the parsing and multiplexing process, and at least one Continuous Media Markup Language (CMML) bitstream. The format uses CMML, which is similar to XML, to provide metadata for different time sections of the multimedia file. This allows the file to be textually searched, much like a web page is searched by Google, even though it is a binary file. The format lets you perform search-related functions, such as directly accessing a clip inside a video on a web server, or fast forwarding to a particular moment within a piece of music.

NOTE: The Annodex plugin for the Mozilla Firefox web browser is no longer available.
