An AC file contains information about the appearance of a a 3D model in AC3D format. It stores various appearance information, such as meshes, texture paths, UV-mappings, and material definitions. AC files are typically created by AC3D, an application used to create 3D models for games, flight simulation, and virtual reality.

While AC3D is a popular program foo creating AC files, the files are most commonly used by the X-Plane and FlightGear simulators. AC files can even be used to create X-Plane .OBJ files in AC3D and using the X-Plane plugin to export to the X-Plane OBJ format.

Since AC files are saved in plain text, you can open and modify them using a text editor. To open an AC file with a text editor, you may need to change the .ac file extension to .txt. After viewing or saving changes to the file, change the file extension back to .ac.

HINWEIS: AC files used by FlightGear are often accompanied by an .XML file, which contains information that animates the object or scenery in the game.

An AC file is a database file created by Incline Software Ancestral Quest, a family tree genealogy application. It contains information about a family tree, which includes the names, birthplaces, and descriptions of family members and their relationships with each other. AC files are similar to Ancestral Quest .AQ database files but also store admin and user rights for verifying which users can collaborate on the database.

Ancestral Quest is a commercial family tree application that enables you to record, organize, and visualize your family's genealogical information. It also provides a collaboration feature that allows multiple family members to take turns editing the same file (AC file).

To create an AC file with Ancestral Quest, select Collaborate → New File.... You can convert a local AQ file to an AC file for collaboration by selecting Collaboarate → Publish Current File.... You can also convert an AC file to a local AQ file by selecting Collaboarate → Convert to Local....

You can only open AC files with Ancestral Quest. To open an AC file with the software, select File → Open... or select Collaborate → Open Published File....
