How to tag files in macOS

Step-by-step instructions

In macOS, you can tag files to organize them by category (e.g., Work, Personal). This makes it easier to find specific files.

To tag files in macOS:

  1. In Finder, select one or more files.
  2. Right-click the file(s).
  3. Select a tag.

NOTE: In step 3, you can instead click Tags... to see all tags, add multiple tags, and create new tags.

To view files you've tagged, select that tag from the Tags section of Finder's sidebar.
