Software Overview

GDevelop is a cross-platform, open source application used to create 2D games without any programming knowledge. You can create games for a variety of platforms such as Windows, OS X, Android, iOS, and the web. The program was originally named Game Develop by creator by Florian Rival but then changed to GDevelop.

GDevelop allows you to build games using scenes, objects, and events. The program's scene editor enables you to visually edit your levels and supports multiple layers to create parallax effects. You can then add various objects such as sprites with multiple animations, text objects, custom shapes, dynamic lights and shadows, and 3D boxes and apply behaviors to them. GDevelop also provides events to determine the logic of your game by defining the conditions and actions for sequences.

As you build your game you can preview your progress to experience gameplay. When you are finished with the creation process you can export it as a web, mobile, or native operating system game. GDevelop also provides an ample amount of resources to help you get started and acclimated to its environment.

GDevelop is a free tool designed for all types of users to create games for fun or for sale without any programming knowledge. However, the application is not meant for advanced programmers and should not be confused with more professional game development apps. If you are looking for a game creation tool like Stencyl or Construct 2, GDevelop is a great option.
