A NOT file is a note file created by MakeMusic Finale, a professional scorewriter. It contains MIDI information recorded in Finale's Transcription window. Current versions of Finale do not create or use NOT files.

Prior to Finale 2014, the program included a Transcription Mode that allowed composers to record live keyboard performances. These performances appeared as graphics within the Transcription Mode window.
Optionally, composers could save a recorded performance as a NOT file. This allowed them to load the performance in Transcription Mode at a later time if needed.
Como abrir um arquivo NOT
In Finale 2012 and earlier versions, you can open NOT files with the HyperScribe tool's Transcription Mode. To do so:
- Select the HyperScribe tool and choose Transcription Mode.
- Click a music measure.
- Select File → Open and double-click the NOT file you'd like to open.
