Wat is een 3GPP-bestand?

A 3GPP file is a multimedia file saved in the 3GPP format developed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project. It stores video and audio and is primarily used to transmit video over the Internet and save videos on 3G mobile phones.

3GPP is a multimedia container format based on the ISO media file format. The format is commonly used by 3G mobile phones that support video capture but may also be played on various 2G and 4G phones.

The format stores video streams as H.263 or H.264 and audio streams as AMR-WB, AMR-WB+, AMR-NB, HE-AAC v1, AAC-LC, or Enhanced aacPlus. 3GPP is still used but has been dropped by many mobile devices as more efficient video formats have emerged.

OPMERKING: 3GPP files more commonly use the .3GP extension.

You can open 3GPP files on a computer with Microsoft Media Player (bundled with Windows), Microsoft Movies & TV (bundled with Windows), and Apple QuickTime Player (bundled with macOS).

You can also open 3GPP videos with VideoLAN VLC media player (multiplatform), MPlayer (multiplatform), olimsoft OPlayer (iOS), and PANDORA.TV KMPlayer (Android).

How to convert a 3GPP file

You can convert a 3GPP file to various formats in Windows, macOS, and Linux with VideoLAN VLC media player. To convert a 3GPP file, select Media → Convert / Save..., select the 3GPP file, and choose the format to which you want to convert the 3GPP file. Options include .MP4, .OGG, and .ASF.

You can also convert a 3GPP file to a .MOV file in macOS with QuickTime Player by selecting File → Export As.
