XyWrite was a line of word processors most popularly used by newspaper and magazine editors, in the early 1990s. It was developed by David Erickson and originally sold by XyQuest, before being acquired by The Technology Group.
XyWrite III Plus was the most popular version of XyWrite. Various newspaper and magazine editorial offices used XyWrite III Plus to create and edit articles, before sending those articles on for publication. Articles and other documents created using XyWrite III Plus were saved as XYP files.

You can also open an XYP file with Microsoft Visual Studio Code or any other text editor, though these programs will not format the document.
