What is an XCP file?
An XCP file is an Xbox Content Package. It contains a demo, full game, or other content downloaded from the Xbox Games Store (previously known as the Xbox Live Marketplace). XCP files are compressed and encrypted, to prevent players from extracting or modifying their contents.
More Information
The Xbox Games Store is a service through which Xbox 360 players can download video games, demos, and other content. Content provided via the Xbox Games Store (and before that, Xbox Live Marketplace) is sometimes saved in the XCP format.
Each XCP file is an encrypted .CAB archive that contains all a content package's resources and assets. Several Xbox 360 enthusiasts have attempted to create utilities that allow them to extract, view, and modify XCP files' contents. However, their efforts have largely been unsuccessful. Therefore, in most cases, you will not be able to open an XCP file to view its contents.
NOTE: Content provided via the original Xbox version of Xbox Live was also saved in the XCP format.
How to open an XCP file
You can use XCP Unpack to extract the contents of an XCP file that contains a Games on Demand game or a game demo. XCP Unpack will save the unpacked XCP file's contents as a .GOD package.
If your XCP file contains a different type of Xbox content, you will not be able to open it or extract its contents.
