What is a WUA file?
A WUA file is a game archive used by Cemu, a Nintendo Wii U emulator for Windows. It stores a complete Wii U game in a single file by combining the game's content, updates, and downloadable content (DLC), when available. WUA files are designed to simplify game management by replacing the multiple folders and files that Wii U games normally require.
More Information
Cemu developers introduced the WUA format as an optional archive format for organizing Wii U games. Unlike the original Wii U game dump formats, which store game data in separate directories, a WUA file packages everything into a single archive, using compression to reduce storage space while preserving the data needed to emulate the game accurately. This makes it easier to move, back up, and manage games while retaining support for updates and DLC.
Users typically create WUA files by converting game dumps obtained from their own Wii U consoles. Cemu players often use the format to keep game libraries organized and to reduce the number of files stored on their computers.
How to open a WUA file
You can open WUA files with Cemu. To open a WUA file, select File → Load. Once loaded, Cemu uses the archived game data to emulate the Wii U title just as it would with an extracted game dump.
