What is a VDB file?
Virus database file used by Symantec AntiVirus, a program that protects company computers against viruses; contains virus definition updates; used to distribute virus definitions from an AntiVirus server to clients when new viruses are discovered.
VDB files are converted from .XDB files before they are sent to clients. They are commonly distributed within corporate networks.

A VDB file may also be a volume database file created by OpenVDB, an open source C++ software library used to create special effects in DreamWorks animated films. It contains data used to simulate volumetric effects, such as clouds and smoke, or represent a surface, such as water.
OpenVDB is used by various feature films, short films, and TV series. Some of the titles include How to Train Your Dragon 2, The Croods, and Puss in Boots.
