What is a TXBN file?
A TXBN file is a game data file used by Mario Kart Arcade GP DX and Lugi's Mansion Arcade, which are arcade versions of popular Nintendo video games. It contains a portion of a game's in-game text. You are most likely to encounter TXBN files packaged within game dumps of Mario Kart Arcade GP DX and Luigi's Mansion Arcade.
Similar to Nintendo console games' .MSBT files, TXBN files contain information about how text should appear in a Nintendo arcade game. Each game includes multiple versions of each of its TXBN files, which are localized for different regions. Each language's TXBN files are saved in their own folder.
Most TXBN files contain only binary data, which a game translates into in-game text. However, some TXBN files contain both binary and plain text data. While TXBN files are not meant to be opened by players, some gaming enthusiasts have created tools that allow them to transform the binary data that TXBN files contain into readable text.
How to open a TXBN file
You can use the Mario Kart Arcade GP DX text tool (Windows) to transform the data that Mario Kart Arcade GP DX's TXBN files contain into readable text. A similar tool, called the Luigi's Mansion Arcade text tool (Windows), exists to convert that game's TXBN files into readable text.
