What is a TT17 file?
A TT17 file is a tax return created by the 2017 version of TurboTax Canada, a program used to file tax returns. It contains Canadian federal and province tax information and personal data entered by the user. TT17 files are most commonly created and used in 2018 between January and April.
When you save your tax return in TurboTax Canada 2017, the TT17 file is created to save your progress. It is the main file type used by TurboTax Canada and is primarily utilized for three purposes:
- Saving a 2017 tax return to be electronically filed or printed to be mailed.
- Backing up a tax return in case of the loss or corruption of a tax return.
- Importing 2017 tax data into the 2018 version of TurboTax Canada.
Tax return file extensions used by TurboTax Canada reflect the year of the tax data they contain. Tax returns for the 2016 year use the .TT16 extension, returns for the 2015 year use the .TT15 extension, and so on.
NOTE: The U.S. version of TurboTax 2017 saves files with a .TAX2017 file extension.
