What is a SIMG file?
An SIMG file is a disk image file saved in the proprietary Synclavier Disk Image (SIMG) format. It stores a collection of sounds used to compose music with SynclavierX, a digital synthesizer program. SIMG files are designed to be mounted by SynclavierX to allow users to access all their songs in one file without having to load multiple files.
More Information
You most likely will only encounter an SIMG file if you use SynclavierX software. However, SynclavierX has been discontinued and SIMG files are no longer used, making them uncommon.
NOTE: SynclavierX is a program that emulates the capabilities of a Synclavier digital synthesizer, which was a physical music workstation manufactured from the 1970s to the 1990s.

An SIMG file is a disk image saved in the Android sparse image format. It contains a structured binary image representing a partition on an Android device, such as the system, vendor, or userdata partition. Instead of storing every byte of the partition, the file records only the blocks that contain data and skips empty space, making the image smaller and faster to transfer while still allowing the operating system to recreate the full partition when it is written back to storage.
More Information
Device manufacturers, ROM developers, and repair technicians commonly use SIMG files when distributing firmware, updating devices, or restoring damaged systems. Because the file represents a filesystem rather than individual files, it is not meant for normal document storage or sharing.
How to open a SIMG file
SIMG files are typically not meant to be opened. Utilities in the Android platform, especially the fastboot flashing system, usually read sparse images and expand them to a complete partition during installation or recovery.
How to convert a SIMG file
You can convert SIMG files to raw .IMG files using the Android simg2img utility. After conversion, the resulting image can be mounted in Linux or examined with disk-image utilities.
