What is an SBXLS file?
An SBXLS file is a save state created by Sandboxels, an online free-falling sand simulator. It contains a record of the substances a user has added to their Sandboxels environment, including their type, placement, and size. It may also include a description of the environment's temperature, custom colors, and custom settings.
More Information
Sandboxels allows you to place various simulated substances, such as sand, rock, snow, limestone, magma, food, and more, and then heat, cool, and otherwise transmogrify those substances. Doing so allows users to view substances' reactions to stimuli and produce exciting visuals.
You can save the current state of a Sandboxels environment by selecting SAVES. From the Save & Load window that appears, you can either save your environment's current state to a Sandboxels slot or download the state as an SBXLS file by selecting Save to File.
How to open an SBXLS file
You can open an SBXLS file with Sandboxels in a web browser. To do so:
- Open Sandboxels in your web browser.
- Select SAVES.
- Click Load File.
- Navigate to and open your SBXLS file.
You can also open an SBXLS file by dragging and dropping it into Sandboxels.
Opening an SBXLS file with a text editor
Since SBXLS files are saved in plain text, you can also open them with a text editor, such as Microsoft Notepad (Windows) or Apple TextEdit (Mac), or a source code editor. However, opening an SBXLS file with a text editor will not display it the same as if you opened it with the R74n Sandboxels simulator in a web browser.
Instead, when you open an SBXLS file with a text editor or source code editor, you can modify the properties of the SBXLS file. Remember that if you incorrectly edit the file, you may inadvertently corrupt the saved state.
