What is a PTCOP file?
A PTCOP file is a project created by Pixel PxTone, also known as "PxTone Collage," a music composition tool designed for creating chiptune-style music. It stores audio tracks, instruments, note sequences, timing information, and settings in the proprietary PxTone Composer Project (PTCOP) format. After saving their music compositions as PTCOP files, PxTone users can close and re-open the projects to continue editing.
More Information
Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya, a Japanese programmer, released PxTone in the mid-2000s as a successor to the Organya engine used in Cave Story, which Pixel also developed. Its primary users are hobbyist composers and game developers looking to create retro-style soundtracks and effects.
NOTE: PxTone and "pxtone" are used interchangeably.
How to open a PTCOP file
You can open PTCOP files with various programs, including pxtone Collage, pxtone Player, and pxtnplay. While Pixel no longer develops PxTone software, its community has continued its development, which has resulted in various forks of the software.
