What is a PIG file?
A PIG file is a game resource file used by Descent or Descent 2, first-person shooter games in which players pilot a spaceship through underground mines. Most notably, PIG files contain textures used in the games. PIG files also contain sound effects and model data.
More Information
In Descent and Descent 2, players battle against an alien computer virus by destroying infected mines' power reactors. Interplay Productions and Parallax Software released the first Descent in 1995 for MS-DOS and Mac; they released Descent 2 in 1996.
Both games store a variety of game assets in PIG files. Descent 2 stores additional textures in .POG files. Those textures replace some of the textures contained in Descent 2's PIG files.
How to open a PIG file
PIG files are not meant to be opened or modified by players. Some Descent modders have created utilities that allow them to modify PIG files, but none of those utilities are currently available for download.
