PhotoImpact Thumbnail Cache

A PE4 file may also be a thumbnail cache or accompanying metadata file created by version 4 of Ulead PhotoImpact. PhotoImpact automatically creates a pair of PE4 files to store thumbnails of a user's images and information about those images. This allows PhotoImpact to efficiently display organized thumbnail galleries.
Ulead PhotoImpact is a discontinued image editing program used primarily to edit photographs. Version 4 of PhotoImpact was released in 1997.
PhotoImpact version 4 (and the fourth version of other Ulead programs, such as PhotoExplorer and iPhotoPlus) cached thumbnails of images that users had opened or viewed in a file named imageiio.pe4. It also cached image metadata in a file named imaginfo.pe4. Doing so allowed PhotoImpact to quickly load and display thumbnail images to users (in areas such as the app's sidebar file explorer).
Common PE4 Filenames
Imageiio.pe4 - Stores a PhotoImpact 4 thumbnail cache.
Imaginfo.pe4 - Stores metadata about the thumbnails in a user's imageiio.pe4 file.
How to open a PE4 file
PE4 files are not meant to be opened by users. Ulead PhotoImpact loads PE4 files, and the thumbnails they contain, automatically as needed.
