What is a MIG file?
File created by Windows Easy Transfer or Microsoft User State Migration Tool (USMT), both of which allow Windows users to migrate user data from one Windows operating system to another; contains user accounts, program settings, operating system settings, files, folders, and registry keys.
USMT is commonly used to migrate large deployments whereas Windows Easy Transfer is used for migrating one computer at a time. MIG files can be stored remotely, locally, or directly on the destination computer during the migration process.
MIG files are used for upgrades of Windows operating systems.
