What is an MGX file?
An MGX file is a saved game created by Rise of Nations, a real-time strategy game developed by Big Huge Games and published by Microsoft Game Studios. It contains a record of a player's in-progress game or campaign. Players can load MGX files in Rise of Nations to resume the saved game they contain.
In Rise of Nations, players guide a nation to military or cultural victory over other nations. The game can be played single-player, in either quickplay or campaign mode, or multiplayer.
At any time during a quickplay or multiplayer game, players can use the game's in-game menu (opened by pressing F10) to save that game as an MGX file. During campaign mode, Rise of Nations automatically saves a player's progress in an MGX file at certain points during the campaign.
The Windows version of Rise of Nations stores MGX files in the following location:
~Users/YourUserName/Documents/My Games/Rise of Nations
How to open an MGX file
You can load the saved game an MGX file contains in Rise of Nations (Windows, Mac). To do so, first place the file in the directory Rise of Nations uses to store saved games. Then, from the game's in-game menu, select Load.
