What is an F3D file?
An F3D file is a 3D product design created in Autodesk Fusion 360, a cloud-based product design program. It contains a prototype of a tool, machine, part, or other meant-to-be-manufactured item. F3D files are created when a user manually exports a product design from Fusion 360.
Autodesk Fusion 360 is a 3D industrial and mechanical design application that engineers use to design and test products. For example, an engineer might prototype a car in Fusion 360 before submitting the car to simulated motion, stress, and thermal tests.
Typically, users share Fusion 360 designs with others via the app's cloud platform. However, users can also manually export a design by selecting File → Export... from Fusion 360's menu bar (or exporting the file from Fusion 360's cloud platform). When they do, the design is saved locally as an F3D file. Users can save and share their F3D files with others to provide access to designs in cases where cloud access is not available.
How do I open an F3D file?
You can open an F3D file in Autodesk Fusion 360 (cross-platform). For example, to open an F3D file in the desktop version of Autodesk Fusion 360, select File → Open... and then select Open from my computer.... Then, navigate to and open your F3D file.
NOTE: If you do not have an active Autodesk Fusion 360 subscription, the Open from my computer... button will not appear. In this case, find your F3D file, right-click it, select Open with..., and select Autodesk Fusion 360. Your F3D file will open Fusion 360.
